Victoria Stilwell Free Ticket Giveaway!

Note: this contest is closed and a winner has been chosen.

Victoria Stilwell, the star of “It’s Me or the Dog” will be appearing at the Count Basie Theater in Red Bank, New Jersey. The show’s promoters have offered me two ways to get Dog Spelled Forward readers a good deal on tickets:

1) Use the discount code TRAINER to buy them online over here and get $5 off.

2) Win my contest for two tickets right here! It couldn’t be simpler to enter: leave a comment, I will pick one at random on Monday night and announce the winner in an extra blog post on Tuesday! My criteria will be completely arbitrary, which means that something something unique or funny or somehow uniquely funny couldn’t hurt. Of course, just leaving any comment couldn’t hurt either. Good luck!

Here’s some more information about Victoria:

Born and raised in Wimbledon, England, Victoria Stilwell is one of the world’s most recognized and respected dog trainers.

She is best known for her role as the host of Animal Planet’s hit TV series It’s Me or the Dog, through which she is able to share her insight and passion for positive, reward-based dog training and as a judge on CBS’s Greatest American Dog. By reaching audiences in over 30 countries, Stilwell helps counsel families on their pet problems.

In the early 1990s, Stilwell began her career in pet training when she created her own successful dog-walking company and immediately recognized the need for qualified professionals to help her clients with the training process. While pursuing a successful acting career (working in London’s West End as well as in numerous films, TV series, commercials and voiceovers), she expanded her focus to dog training by working with some of Britain’s most respected positive-reinforcement dog trainers and behaviorists.

After moving to the U.S. with her husband, Stilwell co-founded several successful dog training companies up and down the East Coast, quickly establishing herself as one of New York’s most sought after dog trainers. With a particular fondness for rescue animals in need of behavior rehabilitation, Stilwell devoted much of her time and energy to a number of animal rescue organizations in New York and Atlanta, serving as a behavior advisor and giving regular seminars on the subject of dog rescue, training and rehabilitation.

Her two best-selling books, It’s Me or the Dog: How to Have the Perfect Pet and Fat Dog Slim: How to Have a Healthy, Happy Pet, have been widely praised, and they detail her favorite reward-based training philosophies: “think dog” and develop “clear, consistent communication between owner and dog.”

Stilwell is passionate about using positive reinforcement training methods that enhance a dog’s ability to learn while increasing confidence. The results are a healthy, well-adjusted pet.  She is firmly against the use of forceful, dominance-based training techniques which often result in ‘quick fixes’ but ultimately cause more long-term harm than good.

She also remains committed to helping the cause of animal rescue and is heavily involved with rescue groups around the world including Paws Atlanta, Stray from the Heart (NYC), Hong Kong Dog Rescue and Greyhound Rescue of West England. She supports the Wisconsin Puppy Mill Project, Jana Kohl and the Waterside Action Group to increase awareness of the horrific practice of puppy mills globally. She has worked as a volunteer adoption counselor for the ASPCA, and her dog-related writings have been published in numerous magazines and journals including The New York Times, Dog World, Dogs Today, USA Today, Psychology Today and The Sun (UK). Stilwell is a regular columnist for Dog World, American Dog and Dogs Today magazines. She has appeared on countless talk shows, news broadcasts and radio shows in the US, Europe and Asia as a dog- training expert. Victoria is certified by the Animal Behavior and Training Associates and is a member of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers (APDT).

Pick me!! Pick me!! If cuteness counts, I corner the market on that criteria…however I am an adolescent and can’t wait to get my license so I can drive and do all the fun things a young doggy wants to do. What’s that, my owner is actually in charge of the car keys and good stuff? Oh boy, then I’m going to need some tips from Victoria on how to behave so I can have the good stuff in life!!

  2. Laura says:

I have been working in the dog industry (daycare and boarding, mostly) for about 10 years. As you can imagine, I have met many untrained dogs. Some dogs were supposedly trained using another more popular trainer, whose name I will not mention, and were still unruly or had other issues brought on by those methods. Anytime anybody mentions the possibility of using that other person or asks about methods of training, I point them to It’s Me or the Dog. I am SO happy a good method of training is now broadcast on TV. If I was a certified trainer, I would be quite a bit like Victoria, in the somewhat outspoken sense…maybe that’s why I’m not an actual trainer. ;-)

  3. Ruth Lopes says:

I learn something new every time I watch the show. Plus I love to see what she is wearing next!

  4. Nicolo Amati Licetti says:

    Roses are Red, Violets are Blue, If we win these tickets, it will be real cool;
Chicken tastes good, Steak even better, If Rayne wins these tickets, I’ll send her a letter!
    Saying have a great time!
My mommy likes Valerie Stillwell a lot. I’d like to surprise her. She is always surprising me.

  5. Liz says:

I have two 3 y/o rescue dogs from TN – one I just adopted in August. Though they are getting along pretty well overall, there have been a few knock-down-drag-outs. I could REALLY use Victoria’s help to get my pups sorted out, and ready for a wonderful life off the streets…Tippi and Zelda (and me too!) thank you!

  6. Diana says:

I would be honored to go because I am an inspiring young dog trainer (17) who is extremely inspired by the work Victoria Stilwell does.

  7. Pamela says:

Pick me–because while I’m way too cheap to have cable so I can watch Victoria on Animal Planet, I’m happy to drive 5 hours to see her. Sick, huh?

  8. Amy says:

Victoria baby! my Sonny Boy NEEDS you!

  9. dear victoria—my name is sampson-i am a cocker–a big one–grandma feeds me toomuch—my mom took me away from a family that beat me all the time–she has tried sohard to make me trust again–but i am still afraid—i bite sometimes–hard—don’t mean to —my mom lovesme and ilove her-i thinki amaddicted to fear–can you be my 12 stepprogram?????

  10. I can’t be funnier than some of the above comments, but all I can say is that I’ve been a huge fan of VS for years, and even tried to get her on #dogtalk! When I worked as a trainer in a big box store, I pushed her book over CM’s to those who wanted to learn how to train their dogs from a book.

In any case, I think training methods are surely turning around–we need more Victoria Stillwells to educate those who don’t “get” positive methods. At least that’s my hope, and why I am part of the blogger coalition for Never Shock a Puppy http://www.nevershockapuppy.com
