Help! My dog is crazy! Part 1: food toys

Is your dog making crazy? Afraid it’s contagious? Dogs have tremendous amounts of energy. Adolescent dogs (roughly six months – two years old, sometimes three years old) have utterly insane amounts of energy. Come up with a way to address this, and your life will be much, much easier.

I live with two Border Collie mixes (and a Rottie/Lab mix). I know what a crazy dog looks like. One of the Border Collie mixes is named “Caffeine.” I’ve picked up a few tricks. One of my favorites is food toys: Kongs, Orbees, and Tug-a-jugs.

This is a video of Buddha playing with one of his toys. (I apologize for the breathing in the background. I had a terrible head cold, but the video just didn’t “feel” right muted or with music.)

Did you know that the Tug-A-Jug is made of bullet-proof material, according to several websites I found (e.g., http://www.alphadogtoys.com/tough-dog-toys-interactive-treat-dispenser.html)? If you can train your dogs to hold the toy in front of themselves should they come under fire, you’ve kept them not only entertained, but safe!

Great video! My ACD’s favorite toys are the Everlasting Treat Ball and the Everlasting Fun ball.

Thank you! Buddha doesn’t like the everlasting treat ball, I think because he is missing some teeth and isn’t patient enough to lick it. His “sister” Caffeine, can pop out the refills in a few seconds each. I’ll look up the fun ball.
