Chicken Soup for the Pet Lover’s Soul’s dry food is one of the few foods that has made Whole Dog Journal’s recommended list. This isn’t easy to do, but if you look at the information page for their adult formula, you’ll see how they do it: the top ingredients are whole meats (chicken and turkey) and whole grains like barley and brown rice. This is a quality food!
Kids and Pets Day is a chance to celebrate how important your pets are to you and the children in your life. Fortunately with the trend the weather has taken in this area it looks like I’ll be able to celebrate this outside with a game of fetch or maybe even with the agility gear set up.
Leave me a comment below. How will you be celebrating kids and pets day? I’ll select a winner on Friday and contact you directly for a shipping address and arrange for the card to be supplied to you. (So make sure you use a real e-mail address in the comment! It won’t be visible to anyone but me.) Only U.S. residents are eligible.

I take 7 of my rescue dogs to 6 schools in two weeks to promote being kind to animals, pet responsiblity, and bite prevention. I do this free of charge and partner with the local humane society so classrooms can collect donations for them. It is a way for me to reach the kids about how they should act around animals. We have also done libary shows and pet rescue events as well. I only have one child and he is 2 now so we are just at the point of being able to celebrate the bond they are having. We work every day, not just one, to teach him the importance of treating the dogs right. On Sat. the 26th my dogs will actually be performing a show and a good friend of mine has her two kids helping out with the dogs. So they will be learning how to teach other people the importance of rescue dogs and pet responsibility.
This is great! Thanks for sharing it.
For Kids and Pets Day my German Shepherd Desperado and I will be out socializing…other people’s children! From the time Desperado was a puppy he has been an ambassador for his breed, and I’ve watched him change the minds of children and parents alike about large, black, “scary” looking dogs. He has waited patiently for a pet from more than one nervous five year old that had to build up the courage to touch his silky black fur. His sweet demeanor has also calmed the fear of more than one nervous parent who didn’t know about the safety of having a small child and a German Shepherd in the same county before they met him. It’s hard to pay attention to the stereotypes of “killer dogs” when you see him calmly walking by my side and sitting obediently to wait for a pet. He’s met hundreds of people including children from elementary school children to infants, and I would like to think that as these kids are growing up and are exposed to the media stereotypes of certain breeds they’ll remember Desperado and have seconds thoughts about ideas like “that breed is always aggressive” or BSLs.
I didn't even know there was such a thing as kids and pets day. It's also Paw it Forward Day on April 26th- too many days to keep straight!
Maybe I can teach the kids how to wash a dog that weighs more than they do.
Sounds like fun. I don't envy you the clean up.
That's great work you and Desperado are doing.
